What the photo needs to show.
- One recent color photo taken within the last six months
- Direct, forward-facing pose with the head level
- Neutral expression, both eyes open, and mouth closed
- Plain white or off-white background without shadows or objects
- Original, unedited image without filters or artificial background changes
- Printed at 2 × 2 inches with the head centered and correctly sized
Final acceptance is determined by the U.S. Department of State or the receiving agency.
We prepare and review the photo against current published requirements, but no photo provider can make the final acceptance decision.
A few simple choices help produce a cleaner photo.
Clothing
- Wear normal everyday clothing
- Avoid uniforms and camouflage
- Avoid a pure white top when possible
Face & Expression
- Remove glasses for U.S. passport photos
- Keep a relaxed, neutral expression
- Keep both eyes open and clearly visible
Head Coverings
- Generally remove hats and fashion headwear
- Religious or medical coverings may be allowed
- The full face must remain visible
For another country, visa, licensing board, or agency, bring the printed photo instructions so we can compare the requested size, background, and format.
Children and infants are welcome.
We photograph children of all ages. Young children may need additional time and several attempts to achieve a clear, forward-facing image with an acceptable expression.
- The child must be the only person visible in the final photo
- No adult hands, arms, or supporting person may appear
- The child’s face must remain visible and unobstructed
- Patience and flexibility are often needed for infants and toddlers
Infant photos can take longer. We can suggest simple positioning methods that support the child while keeping the adult out of the camera frame.

We keep common U.S. passport forms printed and organized so you can pick up a packet when you stop in for passport photos.
Packet includes common forms such as DS-11, DS-82, DS-64, DS-86, DS-3053, DS-5504, DS-5525, and a current passport fee reference.
We can also take your passport photos, make copies, and help you get ready before visiting an official passport acceptance facility. And if you need it mailed, we can do that also.
Passport forms are official U.S. Department of State forms. There is no government charge for the forms themselves. Any fee charged by Star MailHub and More is for printing, organization, and packet assembly. Final eligibility, required documents, fees, photo acceptance, and processing decisions are determined by the U.S. Department of State and/or the passport acceptance facility.
