Yes — bring it in
- Your signature on a complete document such as a contract, power of attorney, deed, lien waiver, affidavit, consent form, business document, or many vehicle and property forms
- An acknowledgment: you confirm that the signature is yours and that you signed willingly
- An oath or affirmation—often called a jurat: you sign in front of the notary and swear or affirm that the statements are true

- A copy you want certified: Virginia allows copy certification for some documents, but not documents in the custody of a court
- Unusual wording or no clear notarial certificate: we can review what is printed, but we cannot choose or draft the required notarial act
- A verification of fact, affidavit, or deposition: Virginia authorizes these acts, but they are less common and may require advance review

- A blank or incomplete notarial certificate or blank signature line
- A birth, death, or marriage certificate or an official court record: obtain a certified copy from the issuing agency or court

- A request to prove Elvis is alive, that a contract is valid, or that every statement in a document is true: a notary performs a defined notarial act; we do not investigate or guarantee the underlying claim

We can review the notarial wording already on the document and tell you whether we can perform that act. We cannot choose the act for you or provide legal advice. See the authorized powers in Virginia Code § 47.1-12 and the restrictions in Virginia Code § 47.1-15.
Bring the full document and make sure every required signer is present.

If you’re bringing multiple signers, all must be present with their IDs. We cannot notarize blank signature lines.
Do not sign before the notary instructs you to sign.
Some notarizations require the signature to be made in the notary’s presence. Others may require the signer to acknowledge a previously made signature. Bring the document unsigned unless you already know which notarial act it requires.

Do I need an appointment?
Walk-ins are welcome during regular business hours. Calling ahead is sensible when several people must sign, the document is lengthy, or timing is critical.
Can you notarize documents for minors?
Possibly. The signer must be personally known to the notary, present acceptable identification, or be identified through a qualifying credible witness under Virginia law. A parent’s presence alone does not automatically establish the minor’s identity. See Virginia Code § 47.1-2.
Can you provide legal advice?
No. We can perform the requested notarial act when the document and signer meet the requirements, but we cannot interpret the document or advise you about its legal effect.
Do you notarize real estate documents?
We can notarize many real estate-related signatures, but we do not conduct closings or act as settlement agents.
Do you have witnesses available?
Generally, no. Customers should bring every witness required by the document. A staff member may sometimes be legally eligible to serve as a witness, but the same person should not be expected to act as both the document witness and the notary, and staffing may not allow another employee to assist.
Can you notarize an incomplete document?
No. The document should be complete, without blank signature lines or other material blanks that could be filled in after notarization.
